I recently had the privilege of interviewing Rebecca Sawyer, TikTok’s worldwide head of SMBs. Becca shared an incredible statistic with me:
According to a recent research, TikTok was the platform with the best word-of-mouth from other small business owners across all of the major social media platforms.
Better than Facebook, in fact. Far superior to Instagram. This is superior to YouTube.
“It came out that TikTok had the largest proportion of small company owners who planned to start or boost their digital marketing,” said the study’s authors “Sawyer stated his case. “Because of great feedback from other small company owners who shared how successful the platform was for their own.”
When your fellow small company owners tell you something is working, you tend to pay attention.
What are the benefits of TikTok for small businesses?
There are a few causes for this.
Because TikTok videos tend to be personal, small companies may create relationships with viewers/customers. And, in this day and age, being able to be heard above the din and build a relationship with a client is both unusual and appreciated.
TikTok’s basic nature is to establish specialized communities. As a result, small companies may reach out to their target consumers far more readily than on other platforms.
Finally, because one of the key features on the app is a search bar, small companies are quite easy to find on TikTok.
If you own a restaurant in Austin, there is no doubt a niche audience on TikTok looking for, well, Austin eateries.
Find new audiences and customers.
“Because TikTok is enjoyable and easy to use, as well as because it generates engagement, small companies may easily find new audiences using the app.”
When I asked Rebecca for success tips for producing videos, getting recognized, and developing a small business brand on the platform, she offered us a few recommendations.
Perhaps most crucially, and unsurprisingly, “authenticity is essential.” Not only do buyers search for that these days, especially online, but individuals on TikTok can recognize a fake a mile away. As a small business, your duty is to develop content that is original, intriguing, and, most importantly, honest.

Aside from making compelling, organic videos, the other approach to increase your profile on TikTok is the same as it is on any other social networking site.
Advertising and marketing your business on the site using advertising tools is rather simple, and statistics indicate that it is also relatively successful.
How useful is TikTok for brand promotion?
According to TikTok statistics, half of Gen Z TikTok users are likely to make a purchase while using the app, and “81% of users use TikTok to discover new items and companies.”
Furthermore, TikTok video advertising are six times larger than banner ads.
One thing I know is that two of the biggest pain points for small businesses are “not enough time” and “not enough money.” Learning a new marketing tool might fall within the first category for you. And you could be correct.
